Greetings All,
Summer is around the corner and some of us are still making plans as to which
direction to go. As for me, I’ll be staying on the west coast this year until
the Fall Escapade in Goshen, IN. If you have been going to our web site,
www.dovebof.org, you will see a tentative
posting of classes to be offered after the Escapade event. We do hope that you
take this opportunity to not only take classes but see and meet other DOVEs.
If you have been keeping up with weather news, the American Red Cross has been
busy with tornados, snow storms and earthquakes. I did have a few DOVEs contact
me because they just happened to be in the area of a disaster and wanted a
contact to see if they could provide assistance as a Local Disaster Volunteer.
Remember, as we travel local chapters can use our help and with current budget
cuts, help is always welcomed.
Please make sure that you have contacted your chapter of record and provided
them with your most current information. Make sure you go on to the DSHR link to
update your availability. This is your responsibility. You’ll need a user name
and password, which can be obtained by your home chapter of record.
Remember, you must go through your chapter in order to be deployed. Once you are
called by your chapter to be deployed you’ll need to:
· Complete the Pre-Assignment Health
Questionnaire
· Obtain and know the information in
the Disaster Staff Card Brochure
· Know the Expectations for DSHR
Members
· Read and sign the Disaster Worker
Code of Conduct
· Obtain pre-deployment information,
assigned position, responsibilities expected
· Make sure you have identification
and any licenses you may need to perform your assignment
· Share travel and assignment
information with your family and emergency contact.

Best to always be prepared for the big one!
